Shhh… don’t tell anyone but am attempting to write a Euro Techno album. Unfotunatly it is not going as smoothly as I want it to. I’m getting frustrated with the linear structure of it all. It is so second nature for me to make things complicated (see my life). Plus I tend to write things in the minor key, which makes it much more industrially than euro techno. Humm…mabey Britney and the Backstreet Boys know somthing I don’t.
Finally, at long last Hjalti has released a full length (Winter asks what we did in the summer…) . The album is basically a more polished version of my live set and I think it turned out well. Some times it is really hard to get enough distance away from the songs to really know if it is good or not. You put so much of your self and your emotions into these things and objectivity gets lost somewhere along the way. There is definitely one song on the album (I’m not saying which one it is) that I oscillate between liking and loathing. I also know I could have spent a lot more time in the preproduction phase, but then again when is something you are working ever done. I think anyone will agree to that. So for better or worse it is out there and I hope all the hjaltinistas enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed making it (and narcissisticaly listening to it).
The stifling heat and sun of a Seattle summer has made hjalti quite the lazy boy, but all you long suffering fans take solace, not one but two releases are forth coming. The LONG awaited album “Winter Asks What We Did in the Summer…” is coming out in a matter of days as well as the live album from static glide. The d.iscontent crew is still working on future live dates so stay posted!
Yep, my computer got one fucked up little virus, so I have been quite the neo-luddite of late. More concerning is that I may have problems getting live to work, and thus all the work on the new album may be lost. Fear not though because there may be some surprises up my sleeve.
So the show, on my end, was an unmitigated successes. A good crowd of people, a ton of friends [thanks to everybody who came out], and a problem free set. Who could ask for anything more? God it was amazing to hear the low end hit on those speakers. I think my body is still shaking from it. Do to some technical difficulties I even had to improvise during the last 3 minuets or so of my set which was fun. So I guess thanks again to Travis, Miniature Airlines, all the DJ’s, Scobot for the visuals, Ms. SDC for the photography and especially every one of you kids that came out. I am looking foward to playing more shows soon!
