So when it comes to mixing and mastering I always find myself in a little bit of a pickle. I have a bad habit of liking low-end. You know the booty/wall shaking, skull reverberating, soul destroying low-end. Thus my songs usually feature a silly low sine bass drum, a sub bass line, and even my pads tend to lean on the low end of the eq spectrum. Compounding this problem is that I rarely think beforehand about how these parts will fit together. By the time I get around to mixing and mastering I have this tangled mess of blah at the low end of the spectrum. I know there are a couple of quick fixes but they never quite work. Tonight I think I will play around with eq before setting sounds and parts in stone. A little experiment in song writing. If any of you out there in the land of the internetz has any suggestions I would love to hear them.
If you have known me the last few years you would know that I have been going through a horrible Fantasy Power Metal phase. Swords, Goblins, Epicness, all at 144BPM. But I think I am moving on from this now. I’m not as excited by it as I once was. Plus seeing my friend Danny play made me remember how awesome Industrial/Synth pop is. I’ve been a busy little beaver downloading the last 5 years of the genre(when I last paid attention to it). I love it.
So I have been a bit slack of late. With out the imminent pressure of a show date I have not worked as feverishly on my live set. When I say not feverishly I mean not at all. I need to get back in the habit. Especially as I feel excited by some new ideas and influences time to get the pen to the page.
So I have been working on my live set for a coupple of months now(with a short break to Poland) but each time I work on it, i like the previous sections less and less. I think I may scrap the whole thing, or at least most of it and start again. Tonight I think is going to be a cozy bottle of wine and my compy writing music.
A night of propaganda posters a sixer of “Red Menace Amber Ale” and a helpful Dylan (Miniature Airlines) has set the web presence of both Hjalti and d.iscontent on its merry way. Hopefully the new updated sights will be there soon.
